Schrödingerova kočka

Jedním z nejpopulárnějších myšlenkových experimentů moderní fyziky, který přerostl v kulturní artefakt a na nějž naráží řada tvůrců od autorů Big Bang Theory po Terryho Pratchetta, je Schrödingerova kočka.

Nobelista Ervin Schrödinger prostřednictvím pokusu, jenž se v praxi naštěstí nikdy neuskutečnil, vyvrátil interpretace kvantové mechaniky fungující v mikrosvětě, které se snažily převést je do námi vnímané běžné reality.

Zjednodušeně řečeno, v neprůhledné krabici si hoví kočka společně s jedem a radioaktivním nuklidem. Tento nuklid má pravděpodobnost 50/50, že se během jedné hodiny rozpadne, čímž uvolní jed a otráví kočku. Nuklid se sice nachází v superpozici, to znamená, že je rozpadlý i nerozpadlý zároveň. Ale kočka, pokud krabici otevřeme, živá i mrtvá zároveň být nemůže. A podle Schrödingera je to právě naše zvědavost, která skrze otevření krabice posílá zvířátko s 50% šancí do kočičího nebe.

Pro úplnost dodejme odpověď vědecké obce na experiment – údajně se vždy odehrají obě možnosti, a to ve dvou paralelních multivesmírech…

Schrödinger’s cat is one of the most famous thought experiments of modern physics that in time evolved into a cultural artefact with hints used by many authors from The Big Bang Theory to Terry Pratchett.

Nobel Prize winner Ervin Schrödinger has through an experiment (that was fortunately never realised) disproved the interpretations of quantum mechanics that tried applying what worked in microscopic level to the macroscopic objects – the reality we live in.

Simply said, there is a cat together with poison and radioactive nuclide in an opaque box. The probability of the nuclide to decay in an hour is 50:50. If it decays it releases poison and kills the cat. The nuclide is in superposition which means it is decayed and undecayed in the same time. However, the cat, if we open the box, cannot be alive and dead at the same time. According to Schrödinger it is our curiosity that through the opening of the box sends the cat with 50% chance to cat heaven. Curiosity can thus indeed kill the cat!

To be complete let’s add the response of scientists to this experiment – according to them both possibilities always happen, yet in two parallel multi-universes…
