Dada

Dadaismus, umělecký styl provokujících intelektuálů, pracoval s různými formami „nesmyslu“ a revoltoval proti měšťáctví, všedním a povrchním věcem spořádané společnosti.

Už otázku vzniku samotného názvu obestírá několik nepotvrzených legend v duchu tehdejších akcí. Nejroztomilejší je asi ta, kdy umělci vedení Tristanem Tzarou otevřeli malý slovník na náhodné stránce a nad ní upustili z kapátka vodu. Kapka se rozpleskla na slově „dada”, které ve francouzské mluvě značí koně a znamená koníčka (hobby), zálibu či náruživost. 

Mělo tak udát na začátku února 1916 v curyšském kabaretu Voltaire, který vznikl tentýž měsíc, za účelem setkávání členů tohoto hnutí z evropských států. Záměrně uvádíme „hnutí“, jelikož šlo o umělecký i politický protest, který reagoval na světové dění a sympatizoval s ideou anarchie. Rumunsko-francouzský básník Tristan Tzara poté počal roku 1917 s kolektivem umělců vydávat časopis Dada, ve kterém o rok později publikoval první z tzv. Sedmi manifestů dadaismu. 

Krom předchůdců dadaismu v poezii (Ch. Morgenstern, Ch. Baudelaire, S. Mallarmé, G. Apollinaire, ad.), na které literární tvorba de facto plynule navázala, byly typickými projevy umění koláže a fotomontáže, ke kterým později přibyly tzv. ready-mades. Průkopníkem této formy byl Marcel Duchamp, přičemž jde o instalace předmětů běžné domácí potřeby, kterým autor dává jiný význam a kontext. Toto „antiumění“ se dá demonstrovat na nejznámějším přelomovém díle Fontána (1917) od Marcela Duchampa, které sestává z upraveného porcelánového pisoáru a řadí se k prvním projevům konceptuálního umění na světě.   

Tzara ve svém Manifestu pana Antypirina: „Dada nevychází z evropského rámce slabostí, je to dělej co dělej hovno, ale my chceme od nynějška srát v pestrých barvách, abychom ozdobili zoologickou zahradu umění všech konzulárních praporů. Jsme ředitelé cirkusu a hvízdáme mezi větry běhavek, mezi kláštery, prostitucemi, divadly, skutečnostmi, city, restauracemi, ohi, hoho, bang, bang.”

Dadaism, an art movement of provoking intellectuals, worked with various forms of “nonsense” and revolted against bourgeoisie, triviality, superficiality and conformity.

Even the origin of its name is shrouded in unconfirmed legends corresponding with then actions. The cutest legend possibly is the one that the name “Dada” came during a meeting of the group of artists led by Tristan Tzara when water drop was dropped above a random page of a dictionary. The drop burst on the word “dada” which in French means hobbyhorse.

It is said to happen at the beginning of February 1916 in Cabaret Voltaire in Zürich that was established in the very same month as a place of meeting for members of this movement from European countries. We call it “movement” on purpose as it was both artistic and political protest that responded to world events and sympathized with the idea of anarchy. Romanian-French poet Tristan Tzara together with a group of artists began publishing a magazine Dada in which he one year later posted the first one from so called Seven Dada Manifestos.

Apart from dada predecessors in poetry (Ch. Morgenstern, Ch. Baudelaire, S. Mallarmé, G. Apollinaire, etc) which the literature de facto smoothly followed, the typical forms were collages, assemblages and later also so called ready-mades. The pioneer of this form was Marcel Duchamp and it regards installations of common household items which are given twisted meaning and context. This “anti-art” can be demonstrated on groundbreaking work Fountain (1917) by Marcel Duchamp which is made of modified porcelain urinal and ranks among the first manifestations of conceptual art in the world.

In Monsieur’s Antipyrine’s Manifesto Tzara says: “Dada remains within the framework of European weakness, it’s still shit, but from now on we want to shit in different colours so as to adorn the zoo of art with all the flags of all the consulates. We are circus ringmasters and we can be found whistling amongst the wind of fairgrounds, in convents, prostitutions, theatres, realities, feelings, restaurants, ohoho, bang bang.”
